DATING & SEXUAL RESPONSIBILITY SERIES #24
DATING & SEXUAL RESPONSIBILITY SERIES  The Dating and Sexual Responsibility Series is designed to build awareness about coercive sexual behavior and how to prevent it. Its curriculum gives teachers the opportunity to approach and explore an intimate topic with teens in a practical and helpful way.

A unique element is an emphasis on changing male behavior through a balanced dialogue involving both girls and boys. The series is organized into three units, each with its own videotape and presenter’s resource guidebook. These units can be used together or separately and have the following goals:
* Unit 1: Coercion: What Is It Become more aware of what sexual coercion is.
* Unit 2: Belief, Attitudes, and Expectations Explore attitudes and expectations that influence sexual behavior.
* Unit 3: Refusals and Responses Learn to prevent or minimize the occurrence of coercive behavior.
Included with this series is a computer activity for individual student use called The Virtual Date. This activity may be used in conjunction with any of the curriculum units. Initially tested with more than 600 high school students, health education teachers were amazed when they saw how captivated teens were by this unique activity—“They were into it!” It is virtual because the viewer takes the perspective of the person going on a date—what that person sees, thinks, and does. (Yes, there is a story version for boys and for girls.) It is interactive because the viewer plays a key role in directing the events of the story. At certain points, the story stops and the viewer has to decide what he or she will do next on the date. Choices lead to cooperative or coercive outcomes.

It is educational because the viewer receives feedback from the actors about the particular outcome he or she created.
